Communion Ministry
"And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body
given for you; do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, 'This cup
is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.'" - Luke 22:19-20
Purpose
We are responsible for Preparing Communion (trays, juice cups, crackers) for each Sunday service, and
for clean-up at the conclusion of service.
On the night before Jesus was put to death on the Cross, he had his last supper with the disciples. During the
meal, he took some bread and gave thanks to God in the Jewish fashion. He broke it into pieces and gave it to his
friends saying it was his Body. After the meal, he took some wine, gave thanks to God and gave it to them saying
it was his Blood. He commanded them to continue this simple ceremony in remembrance of him. The church has obeyed
that command for two thousand years, and Church at Carbondale is no different.
Process
Volunteers are 'on duty' about once a month. On the last Sunday of the month we enjoy Corporate Communion; on this Sunday the team is responsible
for arranging 6-8 people to serve Communion to the congregation.
Our current team comprises Vince & Linda Shimp, Susan Begin, Lance & Pam Allee - thanks to our
wonderful volunteers.
Volunteers
The members of this team share a special love for the meaning of Communion. More volunteers are always
welcome.
