Gratitude – Use it or lose it

Pastor Charley Hill

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him-and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?"  Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."  Luke 17:11-19 NIV

Daily Bible Study & Prayer

Daily Bible reading set up: Do you have a special place where you place yourself before God and His Word every day? If not, designate some place in your house where you can be alone and uninterrupted for at least a half hour each day. You may want to begin by reading a few pages from a Christian book. Often this prepares our heart and mind for Scripture and prayer. When you read the following passages this week, follow this pattern:

1. Read the passage slowly.

2. Ponder the meaning.

3. Meditate. Open your spirit to the Holy Spirit through His Word by the process of your imagination. Ask God to reveal to you a scene that illustrates the truth He is trying to teach you.

Daily Bible Reading this week:

Each day you’ll be reading about the life of Jesus and other people’s perceptions/expectations of Him. Ponder what they expected in contrast with Who He was presenting Himself to be and what He would do in contrast with what they wanted Him to do. Consider what you expect of Jesus contrasted with Who He really is and what He really offers.

Monday - Read Ephesians 2:1-9

Tuesday - Read Luke 5:12-16

Wednesday - Memorize and Meditate on Colossians 2:6

Thursday - Read Genesis 22:1-18

Friday - Read Matt 9:18-38

Saturday - Read Matt 23

Sunday - Read Psalm 40

Join me this year; let’s get into the Word and get the Word in us! I’ll put the suggested readings in the bulletin each Sunday. Here’s the plan:

March - Read Luke. April - Read John. In May, we’ll start over again with Matthew and so on through the rest of the year. Having this as your basic, background reading will help you know Jesus better.
